Attorney Rick Buchwalter has been practicing law in the Tampa Bay area for over 28 years. Due to his vast legal experience, Rick is comfortable in both the courtroom and the corporate boardroom.

Mr. Buchwalter is a former corporate executive and in-house legal counsel for Raymond James & Associates, Inc. and Raymond James Financial, Inc. During his 7 year stint as a corporate executive, Rick negotiated, drafted and reviewed numerous business agreements; these included the company’s office leases across the United States, its contracts with equipment and service providers, as well as international headquarters construction contracts. Additionally, Rick managed all company collection activities and was exclusively responsible for the enforcement of employee non-solicitation and non-competition agreements. Rick appeared as lead counsel in 16 arbitration hearings and represented the company and its financial advisers. He obtained arbitration awards in excess of 1.3 million dollars and negotiated settlements resulting in collecting upwards of 1 million dollars.

As an assistant state attorney for Pasco and Pinellas Counties, Rick prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases including capital crimes, financial crimes, and traffic homicides. During his 7 years working as a state prosecutor, Rick served as lead counsel in over 100 trials and hearings. In addition, Rick received special assignment to the office’s traffic homicide squad and, prior to the development of the special domestic violence court, was responsible for prosecuting contempt hearings for domestic injunction violations. Two of his cases garnered national attention, including one case featured on CNN and one case featured on 20/20.

Prior to joining the law office of Sonny Im in Pinellas County, Rick was a sole practitioner who focused on areas of business law, contracts, and civil litigation.
